Background

In the summer of 2003 my eldest daughter was born. We received a baby sling in maternity gift and started using it immediately. I was taken by surprise with the number of situations the baby sling could help our small family: When Paula needed comfort a late evening, when we went for a walk to long for her or when we paid visit to our friends all kinds of situations were much easier with a baby sling.
I was wondering why so few of our friends were using a baby sling - actually I was wondering why a baby sling was not part of the standard package that many new parents start off with such as perambulator, dressing table, comforter, etc. And I decided to change that!

Being a frequent user of the baby sling I quickly spotted opportunities for improvement. Working as an IT infrastructure architect with IBM I contacted a professional dressmakers workroom to help me out with implementing my ideas. After one year we finally had a design that honored my ideas of usability and quality, however the manufacturing price was accordingly high.
As the mission was to propagate the use of baby sling to the broadest possible audience the production had to be placed in the far east if Slingy was not going to be something for only the rich and royal. After searching for more than a year I found an associate in China who fully understood my high requirements towards safety and quality. Finally in late 2006 the first batch was finally processed.

It has been hard labor reaching the final design and good materials that comprise Slingy today. My wife and I have done strenuous testing on our own lovely children, Paula, Maise and Fiona, in our daily life as well as during travelling in New Zealand and China. It is a huge satisfaction for us to know, that every day more and more parents throughout the world have started to use Slingy.
